Scientific Writing

We have been learning how to write scientific reports. We did an experiment and made a balloon hovercraft.

TITLE
Balloon Hovercraft
QUESTION

How does a hovercraft hover?

HYPOTHESIS
I predict that the hovercraft will float up.

EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS:
Cd, balloon, bottle cap.

PROCEDURE:
Step 1 Using a hot glue gun, glue the bottle cap over the CD hole.
Step 2: Blow up a balloon. When it is fully inflated twist the end so no air comes out.
Step 3: Stretch the balloon over the bottle lid.
Step 4: Open the cap and place the CD on the table.
Step 5: Untwist the balloon & let go.

OBSERVATIONS/RESULTS:
I found out that the air from the balloon creates a path of air.

CONCLUSION:
The air from the balloon creates a cushion of moving air between the disc and the surface. The air lifts the CD and reduces the friction which allows the CD to hover across the surface.

  1. Hi Stella, Sam here, you know your bro. That was very interesting I might have to ask Miss D if we can do that. So, it creates a path of air aye? That's pretty cool. Good job Stella. Blog you later.

  2. Ola, Stella I like how you have used hard scientific words in your scientific writing. I have also actually used the hover balloon too. But what did you like about the experiment or what was the learning that you thought was easy and the learning that was hard a;so what about the learning behind the task. but other from that you have done amazing keep this work up and you might even be better than your brother Sam Weston.
